No load shedding planned over New Year's Eve

Cape Town – Eskom said load shedding would
remain at low risk over the festive period, but
warned that the power system remained
vulnerable, meaning that any extra load or faults in
the system may necessitate the need to implement
load shedding.
"The power system is expected to remain
constrained but stable this week and for the rest of
the festive season," Eskom said in its bi-weekly
system status bulletin.
The bulletin was started to give regular and
transparent communication on the power system,
which is expected to be constrained for the
foreseeable future.
"With many industries still on recess for the festive
season, electricity demand is expected to remain
low, and Eskom is confident that it will not have to
implement load shedding during this period.
"Eskom will use this period of low electricity
demand to reduce the backlog on its plant
maintenance programme.
"Eskom continues to make progress with its
programme of planned maintenance, but the
system remains tight.
"We urge all South Africans to partner with us to
save 10% of their electricity usage throughout the
day.
"This will make it significantly easier to manage the
power system during this challenging time, while
also enabling us to do planned maintenance to
ensure the reliability of our plant."
