Katsina women receive vocational training

Abuja - The Katsina State has trained more than 1
400 widows and school dropout girls in different
handcrafts within the last four years.
Executive Director of the State Agency for Mass
Education, Mdan Ahmed Doki, disclosed the figures.
He said the beneficiaries were trained at nine
vocational centres located in Batsari, Maiadua and
Bakori areas.
Doki added that the training was aimed at
minimizing suffering of widows and school dropout
girls in search of livelihoods.
He said each year, government trained 360 windows
and schools drop out girls in pomade and bag
making, tide and die, food and nutrition, sewing and
knitting among others.

He explained that government also provides kits to
beneficiaries to assist them to set up small scale
business.
According to him, the government had also resolved
to expend the training programme to include more
widows.
He said fund have been appropriated in 2015 budget
for opening of three vocational centres to be located
at Ingawa, Kankara and Kurfi Local Government
areas.
He added plans were underway to introduce training
programme for students of adult literacy
programme in the state to make them self reliant
after graduating.
