Terror scuppers roads construction in Borno State

Abuja - The ongoing insurgency by the Boko Haram
sect has hampered the construction of several road
projects in Borno State, a senior official said.
Permanent Secretary and General Manager of Borno
State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA), Engineer
Mohammed Abba Sanda stated this during a
familiarization visit to the agency by the newly
appointed Commissioner of Works, Usman Zannah.
Sanda said the terrorists have killed ten construction
workers, seized some earth- moving equipments
and brand new 4-wheel drive Hilux pickups. He
lamented that this has caused work to be stopped on
some road projects in the state.
The Permanent Secretary also enumerated
shortages of working implements and low staff
morale as part of problems militating against the
agency's completion of most of the rural roads
across the state.

He said the agency under the present administration
had successfully executed and completed road
projects with improvement of Gamboru -Ngala
federal road, roads and drainages at Tudun Wada,
Bulumkutu, Maduganari wards of Maiduguri
metropolis and the Miringa- Garbula-Gur road in Biu
Local Government Area and numerous rural roads
across the state.
Zannah sympathized with those who lost their loved
ones as a result of the Boko Haram activities and
prayed that Allah (God) grants them eternal rest to
souls of the deceased and quick recovery for the
injured.
He said the current administration had the highest
number of rural roads under construction since the
history of the state, especially the ongoing
construction of roads and drainages in difficult
terrains in the state and attributed it to adequate
funding and prudent management of scarce
resources at the disposal of the state government.=
Borno has been the state worst affected by the Boko
Haram terror that has claimed thousands of lives
and displaced more than a million in recent years.
