The Christain Association of Nigeria (CAN) says 264 killed in Riyom, Barkin Ladi in 2 months
THE chairman of the North Central of the Christian
Association of Nigeria (CAN), Revered Yakubu Pam, has
disclosed that no fewer than 264 deaths have been recorded
in Riyom and Barakin Ladi Local Government areas of
Plateau State from May 29, 2015 to date.
Reverend Pam disclosed this when he led a delegation of
the association and other heads of the church
denominations and Christian organisations in Plateau State
to the office of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Nasiru
Oki.
He said it was saddenning that Plateau had become a state
synonymous with crisis.
"It is unfortunate that Plateau which housed the
headquarters of most Christian bodies in Nigeria has
become a thunder bolt where every little provocation
triggers violence. The recent terrorist attacks and burning of
two church buildings after the recent bomb blast was
uncalled for and called for questioning," he said.
He said many citizens of the state had become traumatised
having been rendered homeless by the incessant attacks and
crises and called on the commissioner of police to use his
position to put an end to crises in the state.
While appreciating the police for living up to its task in
preventing another explosion in ECWA Church last
Sunday, CAN said it was good that roadblocks had been
mounted again to prevent further crimes in the state.
In his response, Oki said he was working assiduously with
his team and other security agencies and state government
to reduce crime rate to the barest minimum in the state. He
charged CAN to make necessary information at its disposal
available to the police.
In the delegation were Reverend Gideon Para-Mallam of
IFES, Pastor Balarabe Usman of NIFES, Reverend Obet
Dasham of COCIN, and other representatives of churches in
the state.
