Wike says Nigerians are entitled to freedom of worship

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has declared that all
Nigerians reserve the right to freedom of worship, saying his
administration will continue to create an enabling
environment for all residents of the state to practice their
respective religions.
He made this known when he received the delegation of
Rivers Muslim Community who paid him a Sallah visit at
the Government House in Port Harcourt, on Saturday.
The governor said what was of utmost importance was for
the adherents of different religions to work for the
development of the country.
"Every Nigerian is entitled to the freedom of worship. What
is important is for all of us to pray for the development of
the nation. We need to pray for the resolution of the security
challenges in the country," he said.
The governor called on the Muslim community to prevail
on their children to stay away from crime, assuring that his
administration would sponsor them for the yearly Hajj.
Wike, who said the ongoing financial meltdown would not
affect his commitment to the community, agreed to look
into the request for an Islamic Cemetery in Port Harcourt.
In his remarks, leader of the Muslim Community in Rivers
State and Vice President, National Supreme Council of
Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Nasir Uhor, commended the
governor for his commitment to the welfare of the Muslim
faithful in the state.
He also commended the governor for setting up the Rivers
State Pilgrims Welfare Board and for appointing credible
Muslims to run the board.
