Buratai Discloses Why Army Has Promoted 5,000 Soldiers
Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, has said the army approved the promotion of 5,000 soldiers fighting against Boko Haram.
According to The Punch, the military senior made this known in Abuja on Monday, September 21, during the opening ceremony of the Chief of Army Staff Third Quarter Conference.
Buratai disclosed the move aimed at boosting morale of the troops involved in a dangerous battle in the northeast.
He further confirmed that 3,032 soldiers recalled back to service had been deployed to the bases of troops operation in the affected area.
This comes after multiple explosions rocked Maiduguri in the evening of Sunday. According to the latest unofficial updates, at least 50 people were killed and 95 injured.
In another development Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau issued an audio message in which he dismissed the successes claimed by the Nigerian army and called President Buhari and Colonel Sani Usman liars.
