Lopsided Appointment: Kogi West Gives Wada 30 Days Ultimatum, Threatens Violence

The people of Kogi West on Thursday has given a 30 days ultimatum to the Kogi state government for immediate correction of the marginalisation of their people.

This was made known by Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district while briefing newsmen in Abuja on the deliberate oppression of the Kogi West people.

He said that if nothing is done in 30 days, he will do everything n his power to make sure his people are heard.

He said, ” I am giving Kogi state 30 days to correct anomalies or we will carry out massive civil disobedience and do all we can to liberate our people. As a people, we should enjoy the resources of our land.

“The battle to fight for our right even with the last drop of our blood is a battle of no retreat no surrender'” he said.

He added that other than the Igala people, no other part of the state has ever been the Director General Government house, Accountant General of the state, Chief of staff to the governor, etc.

The Kogi West leaders among other demands said there should be a review of the employment profile of all state institutions and parastatals in the state and the poverty problems in the West.

They demanded that there should be a fairness, equity and justice in the distribution of the wealth, benefits, projects and programmes of the state.

They also asked for a review specifically in Kogi State University to reflect the decentralisation of the key positions in the university.

He went ahead to cite the imbalance in Kogi State University in the engagement of the junior and senior staff by saying Kogi east has 94 per cent of junior staff, 76.6 per cent of senior staff, while the West has only 1.5 per cent of junior staff and 25.9 per cent of the senior staff.

In conclusion, Sen. Melaye stated that the process should have started by the 30 days ultimatum.

“We are not saying it should be solved in 30 days, all we are saying is that the ameliorating process should have begun at that time”, he said.
