PDP Kicks Against Increase In Osun State Workers Salary
The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun state on Sunday, September 20, questioned the rationale behind the increment of workers wage bill from N1.7 billion to N3.6 billion.
According to Ireporteronline, the state spokesman of the party, Diran Odeyemi, described the increment as fraud being perpetrated by the state government.
In a statement made available to newsmen, Diran said: “many fictitious names of Lagos based supporters of Governor Rauf Aregesola, have been added to the state list of workers and have since been receiving salaries. Rather than debunk this accusation with rhetorics we challenge the state government to publish the unedited the report of the recently concluded screening exercise it conducted.”
The spokesman stated that there was no increase in the number of genuine workers in the state that could have warranted the increment but alleged that over N1 billion is being used by the state government to pay some Lagos based individuals who are not rendering legitimate service to the state government.
The PDP challenged the government to make public all receivable in the state’s coffer while warning against the introduction of what it called strange taxes and levies including introduction of school fees.
“Now that the wage bill has come down to N2.6 billion monthly, we want to caution governor Aregbesola against introducing schools fees, strange taxes and levies on the people of the state just as we urge him to make public its financial records of allocations, IGR and expenditures if truly his administration is for the people of Osun.
“While the PDP recognizes the fact the Osun debt is in the region of N480 billion that will be serviced with over N2 billion monthly for the next 20 years, people of the state should not be made to pay for,” the PDP stated.
Responding to PDP allegation, the state spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, Kunle Oyatomi, said criticism against Governor Aregbesola only prove the deep hatred that the party has for him following the defeat of its candidate in the poll.
Oyatomi said: “PDP appears not to have recovered from the loss it suffered in August 2014, at the governorship election and the pain is reflected in its statements against the person and government of Rauf Aregbesola since then and the instrument the party uses for its criticism is pure fabrication and outright lies.”
In a related development, Osun state Association of Medical and Dental Officers had threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if the state government fails to pay outstanding salaries of its members on or before September 27.
The union demanded that the state government should also remit all outstanding cooperative and contributory deductions from the doctors’ salaries to the appropriate quarters.
