Tension In Kwali Community As Herder Kills Farmer
A herdsman, Soji Idris is on the run after he allegedly killed a farmer who caught him raping a young girl on a farm.
According to Daily Trust, the incident happened in Nitsemwamwa community in Kwali area council in Abuja when the farmer, Danladi Jeji surprised the herdsman while the latter was raping a Gbagyi girl. The herdsman reportedly begged the farmer not to report the incident but the farmer did.

According to a witness, Idris on Friday, September 18 trailed Jeji to his farm three weeks after the rape incident and attacked him with a cutlass, hacking him to death.
He said: “It was after three weeks when the farmer reported the issue to the community and it was settled between Fulani and Gbagyi elders that he (herder) came back to attack the farmer.
“On that Friday morning, the herder who went with his cows in the bush to graze saw the farmer working on his farm and attacked him with cutlass.”
It was reported that enraged youths in the community set fire to the herdsman’s settlement prompting some Fulani herdsmen to flee to a neighbouring village for safety.
Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, the Kwali Divisional Police Officer said officers have been deployed to put the situation under control. He said the body of the deceased had been taken to a morgue and added that relatives of the fleeing suspect were cooperating with security operatives to assist with his arrest.

Mr. Ibrahim Daniel, the chairman of the council urged the police to arrest the suspect quickly and advised members of the community not to carry out any reprisal attacks.
The incident is not the first involving a Fulani herdsman. In Delta state, Fulani herdsmen were accused of killing three persons who were on a peace mission to settle a disagreement between the herdsmen and residents of Okuke in the state.
