Landlord’s Son In Trouble For Forcefully Evicting Tenant





The son of a house-owner who took the law into his own hand and ejected illegally his father’s tenant was on Wednesday, October 30 docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ court 5, Ogba, Lagos, on a three-count charge of house breaking, malicious damage to property and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.





According to the charge by the police prosecutor, Inspector Thomas Nurudeen, John Dominic, 35,  committed the offence on October 13, at Majiyagbe area of Ipaja on the outskirts of Lagos.
He was charged with damaging maliciously property worth N678,000 belonging to his father’s tenant, Elegolu Barak. Furthermore, police stated that his conduct by illegally packing out the complainant’s property could lead to breach of the peace.
When the charge was read to Dominic, he pleaded guilty to all the three counts.
His counsel told the trial magistrate, Mrs. Awope that efforts were on to ensure an amicable solution of the matter. He then pleaded for his release on bail on liberal terms.




But the victim, Elegolu said he was not yet interested in settlement or withdrawal of the case from court. But he could do so later before the next adjourned date, if a truce could be reached.
Dominic was admitted to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum while the case was adjourned for mention.
