HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE INTERNET AND WORLD WIDE WEB

                                        
The internet started as an experiment in 1976. The Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) of the USA Department of defense sponsored a conference held at the University of Illionis at Urban-Champaign. Several dozen ARPA-funded graduate students were brought together to meet and share ideas.  Their aim was to network the main computer systems of a dozen ARPA funded universities and research institutes. they started with four different types of computer in four different universities namely, University of California-Los-Angeles (UCLA), The Standford Research Institute, University of California-Santa Barbara (UCSB) and University of Utah.
